East Jackson Shutout By North Oconee 30-0

The Eagle Nation knew going into Friday night that it faced a tough battle against the undefeated North Oconee Titans.

Commerce Loses Late To Athens Academy 28-21

After recording their first region loss of the season last Friday, the Commerce Tigers will host the Prince Avenue Wolverines this Friday for homecoming.

The 28-21 loss to Athens Academy dropped the Tigers to 2-1 in 8-A, and 3-4 overall for the season. And if Commerce fans expect a cakewalk for homecoming this week, it may be disappointed. [Full Story »]

The East Jackson cross country teams are hitting their stride at a good time, as the end of regular season looms.

Up next is the 8-AA Region Championship meet, coming up on Oct. 30 at Crow’s Lake in Jefferson. That will be followed by the 8-AA state championship on Nov. 6 at Carrollton.

East Jackson turned in two more strong performances last week in the MainStreet Meet in Jefferson, where they faced a host of teams from the surrounding area, including Jackson County, Jefferson, North Oconee and Apalachee. [Full Story »]

Losses End Lady Tigers’ Season

The Commerce Lady Tigers saw their season come to an end last week after losses to George Walton and Social Circle put them out of the running for a chance at the postseason.

The Lady Tigers held senior night on Oct. 5, honoring their five senior players, including Nikki Dotson, Julia Davis, Haiden Nunn, Joely Howell and Beth Pritchett.

After falling behind early to the George Walton Lady Bulldogs, Commerce rallied late to tie the game up 4-4, sending the game into extra innings. The Lady Bulldogs pushed a run across in the top of the ninth to take the 5-4 win. [Full Story »]

Eagles Face Titans Friday

After a week off to heal their wounds and catch their breath from a homecoming loss to Hart County on Oct. 1, the East Jackson Eagles return to action Friday night hosting the North Oconee Titans.

It may prove to be one of the toughest and most telling games of the Eagles’ season thus far, as the Titans enter the week number one in 8B-AA, going undefeated thus far in the season.

North Oconee is fresh off a 37-0 shellacking of the Jackson County Panthers and can also boast a 35-22 win over Jefferson on Oct. 1. [Full Story »]

The East Jackson cross country teams came away with a pair of wins last Wednesday, as they defeated Jackson County in a dual meet at Lamar Murphy Park.

Up next is a home stand for East Jackson, as they’ll host the East Jackson Open meet on Oct. 19.

Tigers 2-0 In Region After Beating Riverside 32-21

The Commerce Tigers avenged their 1944 loss to Riverside Military Academy Friday night as it bested the Eagles 32-21, moving Commerce to 2-0 in the region.

The East Jackson Lady Eagles volleyball team wrapped up regular season play last week, and this week launches into the post-season.

The Lady Eagles were slated to face Prince Avenue Tuesday night in Area tournament action, with the outcome to determine their next match, to be played Thursday night.

Chalk up another strong meet for the East Jackson cross country teams, as the girls set a team record and came away with second place, and the boys placed fourth in the Oglethorpe County Patriot Races on Saturday.

Sherri Blalock led the assault for the girls with a second-place finish, with a time of 20:08, out of 78 runners.

Other finishers included Courtney McDowell in seventh with a personal best 21:36, McKenzie Parr 24th with a personal best 23:16, Sheena McEachin 25th with a personal best 23:19, Skyler Cozzens 30th,
Amanda Anderson 40th, Caroline Flynn 50th with a 25:30 and Cora McDowell 51st with a personal best 25:34. [Full Story »]

Commerce Hosts Riverside Friday Night

The Commerce Tigers got a successful start to their region season under way Friday night, as they ground out a 28-7 victory over the Athens Christian Eagles.

They’ll face another flock of Eagles this Friday as the Tigers will host region foe Riverside at 8:00. The Eagles enter the week in the midst of a five-game losing streak, including two region losses so far.
