The Commerce men’s golf team is riding a three-match win streak after wins over Banks County and Athens Christian.

This will be another busy week, as they play three matches.

The boys were scheduled to open Tuesday at Double Oaks against Riverside Military Academy. Results were unavailable at press time.

The East Jackson girls cross country team closed out its season with a top-ten showing in the state meet at Carrollton on Saturday.

The girls placed seventh out of 26 teams, following only state champ Westminster, Blessed Trinity, Lovett, Jackson County, Buford and Bleckley County.

Sherri Blalock led the girls’ charge, turning in a 24th-place effort out of 184 runners with a time of 21:19. Other results included Courtney McDowell 37th (22:03), Skyler Cozzens 54th (22:54), Sheena McEachin 55th (22:55), McKenzie Parr (23:51), Amanda Anderson (24:08) and Caroline Flynn (24:50). In Jefferson, the folks at Gresham Motorsports Park will give the gift of speed when the green flag falls over the 27th annual World Crown 300.

Since 1983, late model drivers from all over the country have journeyed to the high-banked half-mile speedway to try to claim the title of “King of the Short Tracks.” [Full Story »]

Tigers Open Post-Season At Bremen Fri.

Social Circle provided just the kind of regular-season closer the Commerce Tigers needed as they decimated the Social Circle Redskins 49-21 Friday night.

Now all eyes look toward Bremen, where the Tigers will travel to play the Blue Devils Friday night in the first round of post-season action. Kickoff is at 7:30. [Full Story »]

The East Jackson cross country teams wrapped up their region schedule over the weekend, competing in the 8-AA region championship meet at Crow’s Lake in Jefferson.

Both teams now move on to the state meet Saturday at Carrollton. The boys are slated to race at 2:30 p.m., with Cale Pirtle being the lone Eagle to qualify at the region meet. The girls are scheduled to race at 3 p.m., with East Jackson being represented by Sherri Blalock, Courtney McDowell, Caroline Flynn, Cora McDowell, Amanda Anderson, Skyler Cozzens, Sheena McEachin and MacKenzie Parr. Eagles Fall Hard To Dragons, 49-15

The East Jackson Eagles had hoped to snap a three-game losing streak against Jefferson Friday night, but it didn’t pan out that way, as Jefferson scored at will and held the Eagles to two touchdowns in a 49-15 shellacking.

East Jackson will regroup this week as it prepares for its final game of the season, playing host to Union County in the region play-in game. [Full Story »]

Commerce Defeats Wolverines 35-20

The Commerce Tigers rebounded from their Oct. 15 loss to Athens Academy by putting their third region win of the season in the books Friday night, besting Prince Avenue Christian 35-20 at Homecoming.

Eagles Fall 20-0 To Elbert County

The East Jackson Eagles came out on the short end Friday night on the road, as they fell to the Blue Devils of Elberton 20-0 at the Granite Bowl, marking their third straight region loss.
