BCHS sends 11 to face tough weekend at State Sectionals

Banks County High School’s grapplers wrapped up the regular season last week.

With the regular season complete and the Mat Leopards sending 11 to the State Sectionals this weekend in Jefferson, Banks County has the potential to make quite an impact next week at the State Tournament.

However, before the Leopard grapplers can prepare for Macon, they have to have a good showing this weekend in Jefferson.

The State Sectionals begin Friday at 5 p.m. and continue on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Competing in the sectionals for Banks County are 11 Mat Leopards. To qualify for the sectionals, the wrestler has to finish inside the top four in his weight class. During the sectionals, there will be 16 wrestlers for each weight class competing to be one of the top eight to move on to the state competition.

“Mentally, I don’t think we have been better all year. This past weekend was by far the best [the wrestlers] have performed all season,” coach Kasey Hanley said. “Physically we are banged up.”
