Mat Dragons prepare for area tourney

More important than the Classic, said coach Doug Thurmond, was having the team healthy for this weekend’s area tournament.

“We had way too many banged up, so we stayed out,” Thurmond said. “We’re trying to get our kids well for what really counts here in the next couple of weeks.”

Ahead for Jefferson is the area tournament, the first step back to state for a shot at another state title for the Mat Dragons.

“There’s some real tough kids in our area,” Thurmond said. “I’d like to get all of our kids if possible, but we’ve got to get some of them well. We’ll have to see what happens.”
