Mark another strong showing for the Mat Panthers of Jackson County, as they placed fifth at the Redskin Rumble at Social Circle over the weekend, finishing only four points out of fourth place.
Among those placing at the event included first place finishers Kevin Spicer and Ryan Howe, while Charles Smothers placed second and Jamari Davis and Zach Moore both placed third in their weight classes.
“I was pleased with the performance of most of the team on Saturday,” said coach Jason Powers.

Panthers take fifth at Redskin Rumble
Spicer, Davis and Smothers all picked up wins against the Oconee County opponents they had lost to at the Area Duals, and also picked up key area wins that will aid in seeding at the Area tournament on the weekend of Feb. 6.
Powers said he was also proud of freshman Zach Moore’s performance over the weekend, as he scored his first ever tournament place.
“Zach is starting to figure out what it takes to win on the varsity level,” Powers said. “It took a while to transition over from the middle school style of wrestling, but I think he is finally there.”
