CHS Grapplers Bring Home Third From State

In the first round of the tournament, Commerce faced Gordon Lee. The Mat Tigers advanced on a 34-30 victory. In the second round, the Tiger grapplers fell to eventual State Champion Bremen High School in a 35-21 defeat. Commerce’s only loss came from the school that won the championship.

About the Bremen match, coach Kendall Love said, “It was the only match of the whole tournament I felt we didn’t wrestle to our capability.”

In the second consolation round, Commerce wrestled Social Circle, for the 51-21 win.

The match for third place pitted Commerce against Bowdon. Bowdon was bumped to the consolation bracket after falling to Wesleyan. Wesleyan took second place overall after being defeated by Bremen. The Mat Tigers defeated Bowdon 51-21.

While third place was not where Love had hoped Commerce would finish, he said that all the wrestlers competed hard and there were good matches during the tournament.
