Banks County grapplers had stiff competition at last weekend’s Area Duals.

The Banks County Mat Leopards took second seed at the Area Duals behind wrestling juggernaut Jefferson after defeating East Jackson on the first criteria.

Banks’ upset over East Jackson came after the match was tied 36-36 and East Jackson had an unsportsmanlike conduct violation from an earlier match at the duals.

The battle for second and third place at the Area Duals was very close between Banks, East Jackson, Dawson County and North Oconee.

Dawson County barely defeated North Oconee by one point, sending North Oconee into fifth. East Jackson and Dawson County came down to a tiebreaker that was broken on sixth criteria.

Banks sent East Jackson into third after the taking the tiebreak off of East Jackson’s unsportsmanlike violation.
Jefferson defeated Banks County to take the top seed at the Area Duals.

State Duals
This weekend at the State Duals in Macon, Banks enters into the first round of the tournament against Henry County on Friday. According to the Georgia High School Association’s website, the AA round begins at noon on Friday.

Only 16 teams made it to the State Duals in class AA. The schools are Banks County, Benedictine Military, Blessed Trinity, Brantley County, Cook, Dade County, Dublin, Fitzgerald, Henry County, Jefferson, Jordan, Lovett School, Monticello, Sonoraville, Spencer and Toombs County.
