Jefferson USA Wrestling came out on top in the New Year’s Classic that was held this past Saturday at Jefferson High School. The Dragons beat out 50 other schools for the team title. The event was held Dec. 26 and 27, with over 400 kids competing from four different states.
Jefferson scored 84 points while Team Walton placed second with 60 points. Rounding out the top five were West Forsyth with 42 points, West Laurens Raider Storm with 32 points and Commerce with 28 points. Other local teams competing were Madison County who finished 8th, Banks County in 9th, Jackson County in 16th and East Jackson in 20th place with 9 points.
Area individual champions from Jefferson were Jacob Crumley, Ben Kelly, Cooper Young, Ethan Garner, Kyle Springer, Josh Harris, Caleb King, Ty Finch and Jace McColskey. East Jackson’s Avery Nelms also took home gold.
