The 2008 year offered a lot of ups and downs for the local teams as Commerce and East Jackson high school athletes competed on the fields, tracks, mats and courts.

Tiger and Eagle fans, athletes and parents have a number of memories from the year that will live in the clippings and trophies demonstrating the accomplishments of student athletes from both schools.

•The Tigers go to the first round of football playoffs
The 2008 appearance marked Commerce’s 12th straight trip to the postseason.

•Lady Eagles win back-to-back region titles
The East Jackson Lady Eagles won their second region 8-AA softball championship in just their second year of play.

•East Jackson ends first region season to Jefferson
In the EJCHS Gridiron Eagles’ inaugural season in 8-AA, the team went 3-7.

•Commerce grapplers take fourth, one state champ
The Commerce Mat Tigers made a strong showing at the Gwinnett Arena during the 2008 state wrestling tournament.

•Middle school Tigers defeat Jefferson
The Commerce Middle School Tigers did something that their high school counterparts haven’t done in two years – beat Jefferson.
