The Winder-Barrow High School Lady Bulldoggs put win No. 6 in the record book last Friday with a 44-33 victory against Flowery Branch at home.
Mimi Hill paced the WBHS with 16 points as the Lady Bulldoggs benefited from a strong third quarter.
Lauren Hamel added nine points for coach Brenda Hill’s team while Brittany Witt finished with six points.
The loss helped the team recover from a disappointing 59-51 setback to Heritage three days earlier. The Lady Bulldoggs had defeated the Lady Patriots during a tournament earlier in the season but Heritage earned a little payback during this meeting.
Shant Finch finished with eight points for WBHS while Hamel added six.
Through nine games of the 2008-09 season Coach Hill said she is pleased with where her team is.
“There are a couple of more games we could have won but we didn’t have enough experience in those types of situations,” she said. “The girls are working hard and listening to the coaches. Our confidence level is very high right now. each game is a learning experience. We will know how to better handle those situations the next time.”
The team is already close to matching last season’s win total of nine, something which is encouraging for Coach Hill and the players.
“We are just trying to concentrate on one game at a time and not overlooking any opponent,” she said.
The Lady Doggs will compete in a holiday tournament at St. Pius High School starting Saturday against St. Mary’s of New Orleans at 1:30 p.m.
