Mat Leopards take second at Morgan County Tournament, 7-1 in duals

According to coach Kasey Hanley, the seniors did very well at the tournament, but he was pleased that with the performance from all the wrestlers.

Banks had multiple medal winners including four grapplers to make it to the finals.
Demetric Dempson took first place in 171 lbs.; Paul Newel, 152 lbs. placed second; Matthew Patton placed second in 215 lbs. and Tramane Mayfield placed second in heavyweight.

Third place winners for the Banks team include: Homer Carver, 119; Cody Turner, 125; Tyler Goodson, 140; and Jared Gregory, 160.

Jordan Waters at 103, and Viet Pham at 112, placed fourth.

“[The team] is wrestling pretty well right now,” said Hanley.

After taking this week off, the Mat Leopards will return for a near full week of practice next week to prepare for the Jan. 3 tournament at Hart County. Approximately 16 teams will be present at the tournament. Hanley expects Banks to do well if the Leopard grapplers perform up to par from past performances.
