Jefferson takes third at Sawnee Duals

“The team did very, very well,” said coach Doug Thurmond. “We didn’t lose hardly any matches. I was proud of the guys. They did a good job. We still feel like we’ve got a little more work to do, but we’re moving in the right direction.”

Up next was Friday’s Sawnee Mt. Duals at West Forsyth High School.

After the first day, the Mat Dragons were 40 along with Bradley Central, a predominant state championship team out of Tennessee, and Pope. Jefferson came out seeded fourth.

Jefferson would meet Bradley in the semi-finals, and was defeated 39-21.

The Mat Dragons then worked their way back to face Eastside out of South Carolina for third. It was the second meeting of the event between Jefferson and the South Carolina traditional and state champs from last year. The

Dragons defeated them in their first meeting, 39-25, and then defeated them again to finish third in the meet 37-28.

Also during the meet, Jefferson defeated Gilmer 58-16, Milton 60-16, Parkview 54-27, North Gwinnett 71-4 and Peachtree Ridge 69-9.
