East Jackson loses to Rams 65-57

Last year, the Eagles split their two meetings with Stephens County, winning the first match-up on Dec. 17 67-63, while they lost a Jan. 5 pairing 94-72.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

East Jackson started out strong Saturday against Grayson, and worked hard to stay in the game all evening. After taking a lead early in the first period, the Eagles found themselves trailing Grayson at the end of the half by 11 points.

The Rams were determined to control the game from start to finish, and led by 12 going into the fourth quarter.

Despite seeing the Grayson lead grow to 16 points at one point, the Eagles battled back, and found themselves trailing by only five with possession of the ball. But a missed shot cost East Jackson a chance to swing the game, and gave Grayson the opportunity they needed to open a late lead, and take the win.

Brandon Garrett led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points, while Kolby Gilbert scored 13 and Standrick Stephens got 12.

“I thought we played hard and the mistakes that cost us the game are ones that we can work on,” coach Brian Turner said.

East Jackson was scheduled to face Johnson in tournament play Tuesday evening. Results were unavailable at press time.
