The 2008 football season came to an end Friday night for the Jefferson Dragons, as they fell to the Lovett Lions 34-24 in the second round of playoff action.
Despite the loss, it was a dream season for the Dragon Nation, as Jefferson went 11-1, winning their first region title since 1977.
The game was tight from the beginning, with Jefferson striking first with a field goal, then moving out to a ten point advantage.

After moving to a AA region with 10 teams, that left only one game with a non-region opponent---rival Commerce....
Buford is blessed to have a smaller region, leaving them with more opportunities to play other non-region teams.
So don't go blaming Jefferson for the schedule they were given of the region they were put in. GHSA could have easily put Jefferson in 6AA with Buford but they didn't. It was out of Jefferson's hands.
Competition A Plenty: The reason Buford plays out of state and these other larger class schools, is due to AA teams like Jefferson who will not schedule them. SCARED is the word.
Playing Buford would be nice, and even if they had the opportunity logistically, it may not happen due to Buford playing out of state schools and AAA and AAAA competition for THEIR non-region games.
It's not that easy.
Why doesn't UGA just go schedule USC, Texas and Oklahoma for their non-conference games?
In 2 years, Buford will be part of 8-AA anyhow. East Jackson and North Oconee will be AAA schools.
