Lady Leopards take to the court

The Banks County High School girls basketball team is preparing for another season on the courts.

The Lady Leopards are looking to improve on the 7-15 record from last year.

“We still have a long way to go,” said coach Jerry King. “However the girls are becoming more familiar to the drills and philosophy of the program.”

With several returning players as juniors and seniors, the ladies are jumping right in with the first game on Thursday.

Thursday evening the Banks County team traveled to Lakeview Academy. The 8-A opponent went 7-12 last season. At press time scores from Thursday’s game were unavailable.

Thursday’s game served as a warm-up for the Lady Leopards, who will compete in the Jackson County Tournament this coming Monday and Tuesday.

The Lakeview game started off decently for the Lady Leopards. Banks County had a slim lead at the end of the first period, but a strong Lakeview offense and several fouls pushed the Lady Leopards down by five points at the end of the third period.

Slightly trailing, Banks made a good effort to retake the lead, but Lakeview managed to hold the girls off and take a 53-36 win over the Lady Leopards.
