At the end of last season, East Jackson Lady Eagles coach Amy Larimer said she saw a bright future for the girls’ basketball program.
When the Lady Eagles hit the court this weekend for the Talon Tip-Off Classic at East Jackson, it will be the first step into a new season, and a chance to write another chapter in the East Jackson history books.
In their first season, East Jackson went 9-17, dropping in the first round of region playoffs after a loss to Dawson County.
Lady Eagles ready for sophomore basketball season
This year, with four seniors on the team, including Autumn Wilbanks, Terin Gillespie, Kaitlin Hill and Paige Williams as well as several returning contributors, the Lady Eagles are hoping for a big sophomore season.
“I am excited about this year and think that we can accomplish a lot if we focus and put our minds to it,” Larimer said. “We have been concentrating a lot on our strengths, which is getting out and running and using our speed and quickness to create offense. We have also been placing a large focus on our defensive intensity, which will be a key component in every game we play.”
Other returning players include Callie Moore, Shelby Johnson, Dynelle Todman, Caroline Hicks, Bralee Griffin and Mikki McGinnis.
The Lady Eagles will play their first regular season game on Dec. 5, as they play host to Oconee County, then host Franklin County one day later.
