Football, Baseball, Track 1960
A three-sport standout athlete, Tommy Dickens lettered three seasons for the Bulldogg football team where he was a record-setting running back. He was a vital member of a resurgent Bulldogg squad that finished with an 8 win 2 loss 1 tie season and a Region 4-A South championship his senior season.
He would rush for 891 yards that year, a 5.7 yard per carry average, and finish with a career total of 1,486 yards, a school record at the time.
In one of the greatest performances by any Winder-Barrow athlete before or since, Dickens ran for a whopping 204 yards against state power St Pius. His great tackle-breaking touchdown run against Monroe in that magical 1960 season was voted “Best Run” by The Atlanta Journal that year.

Tommy Dickens, a standout in football, baseball and track, was officially inducted into the Winder-Barrow High School Hall of Fame Sept. 19. He is shown with family members and WBHS principal Al Darby.Photo by Jessica Brown
