The Jackson County Panthers boys’ basketball team is hoping that, with the addition of a season’s worth of experience for a young team, the 2008-09 season will be a more satisfying experience than last season.
The Panthers open up their season on Thursday with a trip to West Hall to face the Spartans. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Next, Jackson County will play host to the Tip-Off Tournament, beginning on Monday before the Thanksgiving break.
Panthers look to improve in new season
Last year, the Panthers went 6-16 overall, and 3-11 in the region, including losses in their last four games of the season.
Despite that, the Panthers were capable of pulling off some big wins, despite not having a single senior on the team as they worked through a tough AAAA region, winning six more games than in the past five seasons
combined, and by showing improvement through the year.
“We have every player but one back this year,” said coach Britt Beaver. “We started two freshman, two sophomores and one junior last season. We will still be young, with only two seniors, but we will be much more experienced.”
