Banks County headed to State Playoffs

Calhoun is the number one seed in sub-region 7B-AA and undefeated in region play with an 8-2 overall record.

On paper, Calhoun has a slight advantage over the Leopards. The Yellow Jackets have averaged 33.6 points per game while Banks has averaged 30.6 points per game.

Banks will definitely have to keep the ball out of Calhoun’s hands as the Leopards have allowed 21.4 points per game compared to Calhoun’s 14.5. With the exception of the Calhoun versus Pepperell game, Calhoun has won their games with more than 20 points over their opponents.

Banks County is really the underdog, but that matches with the whole season as many still underestimate the team.
Coach Blair Armstrong said that the Leopards have been scaring him a little in the past few games, but expects that not to happen now the pressure is on.

“They kind of scare me. We score fast and then kind of relax,” Armstrong said. “It makes me nervous. I have the feeling that it will be a little different against this next opponent.”

Armstrong also said that he is immensely proud of the hard work and effort that the team has shown this season and for doing something that Banks County has not done in a long time.

The .600 season is the first winning season since 1997 which is also the last time the Leopards made it to the playoffs under coach Dennis Marlow.

Marlow said that the Leopards have a great coaching staff that genuinely cares for the players.

“I am excited about the Leopards going to Calhoun,” said Marlow. “The players from Calhoun will put their pants on one leg at a time just like we do… I think [Banks] has a great chance at winning the game.”
