Winder-Barrow High School junior Ethan Womack shined on track’s biggest stage Thursday winning the Class AAAAA shot put competition with a throw of 52-0.25.
Womack held off Apalachee High School junior Tyler Fragapane, who was second with a state throw of 50-6. Fragapane actually defeated Womack during the Region 8-AAAAA meet although Womack would finish first at sectionals.
“Tyler’s a good thrower,” Womack said. “It will be a battle between us next year as well.”
“Ethan has worked extremely hard,” said WBHS track coach Michael Lofton. “He’s had this goal since last year. It has clicked with him that he can do it. He works at home, works in the weight room and by the time region got here, he knew this was obtainable.”
