Two Raider softball seniors will be part of the first-ever Georgia Dugout Club all-star series this weekend while another will be ready to play should a roster spot become available.
Taylor Morgan and Megan Kesler were both selected to play for the North all-star squad while Heather Echols has been designated as the first alternate.
“It’s good for those kids, and it’s good for our program because it gives our program a little more exposure,” Madison County coach Doug Kesler said.
This is the first year the Georgia Dugout Club has hosted softball all-star games after hosting baseball all-star games for several years.
This is not to be confused with the GACA all-star game played in the summer.
The Georgia Dugout Club all-star series comprises four teams — North, South, East metro Atlanta, and West metro Atlanta — playing a round-robin schedule of games this weekend at All Tournament Players Park in Kennesaw.
The North takes on the South Friday at 6 p.m. and then the West metro team Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and East metro at 11 a.m.
Roger Fannin, head softball coach at North Hall and the coach of the North all-star team, notified Kelser of the all-star games and asked that he serve as an assistant coach.
Kesler agreed and took Madison County’s three seniors to an Oct. 25 tryout.
Megan Kesler and Morgan earned two of the 15 roster spots, while Echols was designated as an alternate.
“It’s an honor for all three of them,” Kesler said
