Oakwood’s R. Garry Glenn, a four-time national and two-time world bench press champion in his age and weight category has been named “Powerlifter of the Month” by irondawg.com.
“This is indeed an honor,” Glenn said. “I’ve had a great year in my sport; and this is just more frosting on the cup cakes. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported, encouraged, and prayed for me through some tough personal times. It’s all very humbling.”

Glenn honored as powerlifter of the month
Glenn was six-for-six in meets this year, winning the State American Powerlifting Committee (APC) title in April while setting the state record; and following that up with titles in the North Georgia Bench Press Contest; the APC Nationals in Norfolk, Virginia where he was named Master’s Division Best Lifter; as well as titles in the Georgia Games; the American Powerlifting Federation (APF) State Meet where he broke that Association’s national record; and capping it off with the World United Amateur Powerlifting (WUAP) Title in Lauchhammer, Germany last month.
Glenn is an honor graduate of both Jefferson High School, and the University of Georgia. He was a varsity letterman in football and wrestling at JHS, where he also served as an assitant junior high football and wrestling coach.
He’s a former Johnson High head wrestling and assistant football coach.
