The Apalachee High School girls soccer team is now 5-1 after a region win Monday against Salem, but coach Scott Bates admits some of the wins have been against weaker opponents.
Even so, the Lady Wildcat coach said winning helps with confidence, regardless of who the opponent may be.
“Having success in games early in the season is also important for our younger players,” Bates said. “It gives them a winning mindset as they continue playing on the varsity level.
AHS opened the 2014 season with a 7-2 loss to Buford, one of the better teams the Lady Wildcats have played, their coach said. Wins against South Gwinnett (5-1), Monroe Area (3-0), Mountain View (3-2), Clarke Central (5-0) and Salem (6-0) followed. Mountain View was a quality win, Bates said, and the win against Clarke Central was an 8-AAAAA victory. Mountain View had been undefeated until its loss to Apalachee.
