The Jackson County Panthers girls’ cross country team is preparing for competition at the state meet in Carrollton this weekend after finishing second in the 8-AAA region meet at Oconee County Thursday.
Individually, Brittany Aikens finished second overall with a time of 20:31; Rachel Pasko finished fourth with a 22:07; Lexie Miller placed seventh with a 23.17; Lauren Turner finished 14th with a 23:43; and Katie Maiolo placed 33rd with a 26:06. Susie Diesch and Sarah Holcombe also competed.

The boys finished sixth overall in region competition. Individually, John Florentine finished first for Jackson County with a time of 19:49, followed by Austin Moser with a 20:06, Zach Knight with a 20:07, Tyler Ledford with a 20:32, Fernando Alarcon with a 21:31, and Christian Sanchez with a 22:40.
Dragos Teador, John Fernandez and Calob Jones also competed.
“Overall we had some great times on a tough course,” said coach Joseph Brubaker. “I am proud of the toughness of our runners and the work and commitment to work during the week. It really paid off.”
