THE LADY Dragons were dealt their first region loss of the season Tuesday as Jefferson fell to Rabun County 49-43.
With the loss, Jefferson (14-9, 4-1) fell to second place in the Region 8A-AA standings and may lose the opportunity to host the region tournament.
Jefferson has two more contests remaining in the regular season – both of which are against region opponent Union County.
The Lady Dragons will travel to Union County on Wednesday (today), before hosting the Panthers on Friday for the final game of the regular season.
While tournament seeding and location are yet to be determined, the first round of the Region 8-AA tournament is scheduled for Feb. 11.
Last weekend, Jefferson fell 53-44 in a home contest against North Hall.
“We had an eight-point lead going into the second half, but we just didn’t do a great job of finishing,” said Lady Dragon head coach Jason Gibson. “We missed a shot with a minute to go and had to start fouling so it got to a nine-point game. Our kids did a good job of hanging on, but unfortunately couldn’t find a way to pull it out.”
Abbie Franklin led the Dragons with 21 points and seven assists. Kellie Goza added eight points.
