Dragons clinch region title, squeak out 17-16 win

After a hard fought game, it came down to a North Oconee PAT with less than thirty seconds left on the clock.

If they made it, they would spoil Jefferson's undefeated record for the year, and potentially rob the Dragons of their first Region title in over three decades.

If they missed it, there would be jubilation in the Dragon Nation.

A fierce Dragon defense attacked North Oconee on the snap, rushing the kick, causing it to go wide.

That's when the celebration began, as the Jefferson Dragons clinched their first Region title in 31 years, and their fourth in school history.

The Dragons took an early lead with two touchdowns on the board by the time the game was halfway through the second quarter.

North Oconee got on the board with a controversial last second field goal before the half, then fought back to move themselves back into the running by the end of the game.

With less than a minute remaining, the North Oconee offense broke through the Jefferson line to score a touchdown, making the score 17-16.

The missed PAT made all the difference.

Jefferson will wrap up their regular season with a trip to East Jackson on Friday.
