THE JACKSON COUNY Comprehensive High School wrestling team celebrated its senior night last Thursday with a duals win over White County.
Seniors JT Wood, Evan Breakspear and Aaron Sosebee were honored for their accomplishments during their time at JCCHS. Sosbee and Breakspear won their matches, but Wood was unable to wrestle due to injury.
“All three seniors will be truly missed and their accomplishments will not soon be forgotten,” said Panther head coach Jason Powers.
Last weekend, the Panthers traveled to Bowdon High School to compete in a traditional format tournament. Because of lingering injuries, only eight Panther wrestlers were able to compete. However, out of those eight, six placed in the top six in their respective weight classes including: Trevin Sweat (first), Antonio Messiano (second), Chuckie Allen (second), Connor Crump (third), Zak Evans (fifth) and Jacob Love (sixth).
“I am proud of the way we wrestled this weekend,” added Powers. “Trevin did an amazing job picking up his first tournament title of his career and Antonio was able to make it to the finals for the first time in his career.”
The Panthers are now in preparation mode for the Area 4-AAA tournament which is being held at Elbert County High School on Friday and Saturday.
“It is our goal to advance eight wrestlers out of area,” said Powers. “This is a tall task in our area, but I believe that it is achievable. We just have to wrestle mentally and physically tough Friday and Saturday and we will be fine.”
