The Banks County Lady Leopards Varsity Basketball Team kick started a new winning streak this week, beating East Hall 54-33 last Tuesday and North Hall 58-49 Friday. The Lady Leopards are now 5-0 at home, 4-4 on the road and 3-0 against non-region opponents with an overall record of 12-4 and 4-3 in the region.
Against East Hall, the Lady Leopards took a nine-point lead over the Lady Vikings in the first quarter and continued that lead into the second quarter, scoring eight more points in the half to go to the locker room up 30-11. The Lady Vikings could not cut into the lead in second half as the Lady Leopards outscored them 24-22 over the course of the third and fourth quarters.
Lauren Carter led the Lady Leopards with 19 points, while Kaitlyn Duncan added 11 points. Others scoring were Casey Turner (six points), Taylor Kennedy (six points), Abby Parks (three points), Gabby Kennedy (two points), Morgan Rylee (two points), Shelby Parson (two points), Paige Mathis (two points) and Brenda Parson (one point).
BCHS had tough time with the North Hall Lady Trojans falling behind by four points in the first quarter and trailing at the half by a point.
But the Lady Leopards pulled ahead in the third quarter and extended their lead in the fourth quarter, picking up 17 points at the free throw line. The win boosted BCHS to third place in the 7-AAA region rankings.
Duncan led the Lady Leopards with 16 points. Turner added 12 points, and Parson finished with 11 points. Carter also reached double figures with 10 points. Others scoring were Kennedy (eight points) and Savanna Blalock (three points).
NOTE: The Banks County Elementary School choir was on hand to sing the national anthem to open the games on Friday night to celebrate elementary school night with the BCHS Leopards.
