Over 300 swimmers packed the University of Georgia’s Ramsey Center last Saturday for the Clarke-Oconee Swim Invitational.
The Commerce High School swim team entered six competitors in the statewide meet, three of whom placed in the top 16 in their events.
“This was a tough meet against some top swimmers from all around Georgia,” said Tiger head coach Lisa Langston “Most everyone had personal best times, and that is what I’m looking for in these types of meets. Our swimmers did quite well.”
Swimmers can score points for their team if they rank in the top 16 in an event. Most events have from 60-80 participants.
Freshman Anna Hardy scored 11 points for the Tigers by finishing ninth in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke and 15th in the 50-yard freestyle event. Freshman Kendall Moon scored six points by placing 11th in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke, while senior Dalton Dean added five points to the team total with a 12th place finish in the men’s 100-yard backstroke.
“Not only did these swimmers score points for us, they, along with other teammates, swam their personal best swims,” said Langston.
Sophomore Tigers Brittany Packer and Akyn Trudnak also swam personal records in the women’s 100-yard freestyle event.
The Commerce swim team will travel to Riverside Military Academy on Jan. 22 for its next meet.
