LAST WEEKEND, the Mat Eagles brought home the third-place trophy at the Apalachee Wildcat Round Robin Tournament in Winder.
Seven out of nine East Jackson wrestlers placed in the top five in their respective weight classes.
Jacob Lindenmeyer earned an individual championship in the 132 lb. weight class, while Hugo Eguiarte (145 lb.) and Jeremy Wilder (182 lb.) were runners-up.
Connor Smith finished in third place in the 152 lb. weight class, while Dayton Watkins (220 lb.), Marshal Crow (106 lb.) and Ryan White (138 lb.) all finished fourth.
On Tuesday, Dec. 10, the East Jackson wrestling squad traveled to North Oconee for an area tri-duals match. The Eagles defeated North Oconee 36-15, but fell to Hart County 33-30.
“We lost to Hart 33-30 in a very close match, but we did not wrestle up to our potential in that match,” observed Eagle head coach Michael Pruitt. “Hart County is a good team, but I think we should have wrestled them tougher than we did.”
East Jackson wrestled in a duals match at Cedar Shoals on Tuesday, but details were unavailable at press time.
After a break for the holidays, East Jackson will pick its schedule back up on Dec. 27, at the Amicalola Classic in Dawson County.
