THE EAST Jackson Comprehensive High School boys’ basketball team earned its first region win of the season on Tuesday as the Eagles defeated North Oconee 76-74.
Casey Reed led the Eagles with 19 points, while Sidney Henderson had 18 points and Jarron Davis added 16.
Last Friday, East Jackson dropped its first game of the season on Friday as the Eagles fell 66-64 to Oconee County.
East Jackson (4-1, 1-1) came out of the gates slowly and the Warriors pulled ahead by 10 points by the end of the first half.
After the break, the Eagles battled back, scoring 26 points in the fourth period alone. However, the Eagles ultimately came up short as Oconee County retook the lead with only 12 seconds remaining in the game.
Casey Reed led the Eagle offense with 28 points, while Jarron Davis posted 12.
Last week, the Eagles knocked off Commerce 53-46. East Jackson found itself in an early hole, but a strong second period allowed East Jackson to pull ahead and never look back.
Reed totaled 23 points, while Sidney Henderson added 10.
“It was a week of mixed feelings as we were glad to beat a rival in Commerce, but down as we wanted to get off to a good start in the region,” said Eagle head coach Brian Turner. “It was also good to see the guys battle through, even though we really did not play good basketball, and give our self a chance to win, but we need to get better and play better for an entire game.”
Friday, East Jackson will travel to Morgan County to face the Bulldogs in a region contest at 8:30 p.m.
