Jerrie Hulsey is as competitive as any coach around. She likes for her teams to win and will be the first to say so.
However, Hulsey said she was as proud as she could possibly be for the 2013 Winder-Barrow High School Cheer Doggs, who finished as the co-ed state runner-up Saturday behind Peachtree Ridge.
“I am one that does not like losing, but I could not have asked this team to do anything differently Saturday,” Hulsey said. “I always tell the athletes you have to have the talent, routine, music and a little luck. With a two -point difference between us and Peachtree Ridge, it was just an opinion thing and it just didn’t swing our way.”
Peachtree Ridge earned scores of 98, 98 and 98 while WBHS was given scores of 97, 97 and 98. Hulsey said to put those scores in perspective, two years ago a 93 won the Cheer Doggs the championship.
