It’s the now or never portion of the season.
The Commerce cross country team hopes to clock its best times of the year when it runs in the Region 8-A meet Thursday at Athens Academy.
Commerce last ran eight days ago in the MainStreet Newspapers meet last Tuesday, finishing last in a six-team event. The meet comprised schools in the MainStreet coverage area.
Ethan Thomas led the pack for Commerce, finishing 36th overall with a time of 21:36. Rounding out the scoring for the Tigers were Zach Scannell (51st, 23:42), Juan Toribio (52nd, 23:59), Johnathan Leffew (58th, 24:31) and Zan Peek (62nd, 25:15). Also competing was Cody Nation (67th, 26:29).
Commerce, which tallied a 259, finished behind East Jackson (32), Banks County (51), Jackson County (76), Jefferson (86) and Madison County (103).
Commerce had just one girl — Hanna Duckett — compete, thus eliminating it from compiling a team score in the girls’ standings. Duckett finished 25th overall with a time of 25:18.
