COMING off a bye week, East Jackson head coach Gary Hughes and his Eagles are ready to get back on the field.
The goal is to get yourselves healthy again and try to get some rest and take care of some things you haven’t had time to do. I think we accomplished all of those things. It was a good week, a long break, and we are looking forward to playing again.”
The Eagles are still looking for their first region win as they travel to Morgan County on Friday.
Morgan County started out the season 4-0, but has since dropped its last two contests (North Oconee and Elbert County), by 40 points or more. Both teams are hungry for a region win and will likely need to come out on top if they still have hopes of making the post season.
Morgan County’s Wing-T rushing attack will look to eat away the clock and keep the Eagle offense off of the field.
“They won the first four games then ran into North Oconee and Elbert and have been knocked around a little bit, but they’ve got a good club. They’ve got good size and good speed.”
Defensively, Morgan County loads the box and runs an eight-man front. Hughes expects the Bulldogs to purse well and play sound defense.
While East Jackson hasn’t faired well in its last couple of contests, the Eagles have had an extra week to polish their offense and work out some kinks.
“We really haven’t done anything different than what our original plans were,” said Hughes. “We are going to continue to be a two-back run team, try to eat the clock up and limit our time on defense if we can. We just want to continue to try to improve.”
Kick off for the Region 8-AAA contest is at 7:30 p.m. at Morgan County.
