ON TUESDAY, Sept. 24, the East Jackson, Jackson County and Jefferson varsity and junior varsity cross country teams competed in the annual MainStreet Newspapers meet hosted by the Dragons at Crow’s Lake.
Jackson County senior J.T. Wood was the top area finisher in the varsity boys’ race placing ninth among all individual runners with a time of 18.43.28. East Jackson freshman Chase Kennedy was also a top varsity boy’s runner with a personal record time of 18:43.61, which earned him a tenth place individual finish.
The Jefferson varsity boys finished with an average time of 19:33.62, placing them fifth out of the 12 teams competing. East Jackson finished seventh (19:43.62), while Jackson County finished eighth (20:07.33).
Chandler Kennedy was the top Eagle runner for the junior varsity boys’ squad, posting a time of 20:05.65 and finishing fourth place overall. East Jackson’s Peyton Brooks placed sixth individually with a time of 20:35.07, while Jefferson’s CJ Guzman placed eighth (20.43.18).
Of the eight junior varsity teams competing, Jefferson placed third with an average time of 21:44.69. East Jackson’s junior varsity placed fourth overall with an average time of 21:41.07.
In the varsity girls’ race, Maddie Newton of Jackson County placed third individually with a time of 21:35.60. Jefferson runners Reese Bowles (22:19) and Morgan Mitchell (22:21.70) finished in seventh and eighth.
Jefferson runners Sophie Brown (22:14.25), Payton Navis (23:35.33) and Aubrey Mitchell (23:43.67) took the top three spots in the junior varsity girls’ race. East Jackson’s Anneka Cozzens placed sixth among individual junior varsity girls with a time of 24:27.34.
