AFTER winning seven straight games last week, Jefferson raised its season record to 25-7 (3-3 region) and climbed into third place in the GHSA Class AA rankings.
The third-place statewide ranking marks the highest the Dragon volleyball team has ever been rated. At this point in the season, the Lady Dragons are on track to post their best record ever if Mike Paul’s squad can maintain its dominance.
The Dragons are only edged by area foe Wesleyan and Westminster. The Dragons aren’t currently rated at the top of their area, but wins against Wesleyan and Greater Atlanta Christian down the stretch could provide the Dragons with a seeding edge heading into the playoffs.
Last Thursday, the Lady Dragons knocked off Chestatee 2-0 (25-22, 25-16) and Prince Avenue Christian 2-0 (25-14, 25-17).
On Saturday, Jefferson traveled to Rome to compete in the Coosa Classic tournament.
Jefferson won five of its six games 2-0, defeating Adairsville (25-23, 25-13), Armuchee (25-10, 25-10), Rome (25-22, 25-17), Pepperell (25-18, 25-17) and Gaylesville (25-21, 25-14). The Dragons only loss in the tournament was a 0-2 (17-25, 23-25) defeat to AAAA South Whitfield.
The Dragons got right back on track Tuesday with back-to-back 2-0 wins against Morgan County (25-20, 25-21) and Flowery Branch (25-12, 25-15) on senior night for Mallory Goodenow.
The Lady Dragons will travel to Habersham Central for a tri match with the Raiders and North Forsyth on Thursday at 6 p.m.
