2008 high school baseball wrap up: Panthers improve from last year

The Jackson County Comprehensive High School Panthers played a hard season of baseball.

The team reached a milestone by winning back-to-back shutout games against Clarke Central and Dacula.

No one remembers it ever happening in recent years until this season.

Two shutouts were not the only thing the Panthers improved on, the team also won more games than they did in the 2007 season. Overall, Jackson County has a 6-19 record with five being region wins.

While the team played hard in their games it was evident that the problems left from a school split and changes to the coaching staff made this growing season face yet more hurdles.

However, coach Tommy Fountain took the obstacles in stride and every game saw the chance to improve the players and their grasp on the game. Fountain has said that this season was the first step to getting JCCHS’s baseball program on track to where it should be.

Jackson County moves down to Region 8-AAA next year and will be facing schools like Stephens County, Franklin County and Oconee County.
