Madison County’s Macy Mullis captured three state titles in Tifton July 19.
She was one of three Madison County swimmers competing with the Jefferson Sea Dragons in the Georgia Recreation and Park Association B/C class state swim meet.
Walker and William Johnson, sons of Burke and Lannae Johnson, traveled with Mullis, daughter of Mitch and Jean Mullis, to Tifton for the meet. Walker, 10, swam in the 9-10 medley and freestyle relays and William, 7, swam on the 7-8 freestyle relay, placing seventh.
Mullis, 10, won first in three girls 9-10 events: 25 freestyle, 25 backstroke and the medley relay and placed second in the freestyle relay. Mullis broke the state record in the 9-10 girls’ 25 backstroke during the preliminary round and then broke it again during the finals. Mullis is one of two swimmers for the Sea Dragons to have won three state titles in one season.
For the first time in the team’s seven-year history, the Jefferson Sea Dragons captured the girls’ state team title. This is Mullis’ fourth summer with the Jefferson Sea Dragons and the first for the Johnson brothers.
