In a little more than a month, Apalachee High School and Winder-Barrow High School will begin their respective 2013 football seasons.
Players from both schools have already put in numerous hours of work for the upcoming campaign and both programs clearly have a goal of improving upon what they accomplished in 2012.
AHS and WBHS compete in the extremely tough Region 8-AAAAA, which produced last season’s state champion (Gainesville). Both the Wildcats and Bulldoggs will meet the Red Elephants again this fall.
It’s not just Gainesville, however, which will provide a challenge for AHS and WBHS and the rest of the region in 2013. Flowery Branch has been a formidable foe in recent years and there are no indications that won’t continue this season. Even with a coaching change a year ago, the Falcons qualified for the postseason.
