Just over a month after ending the 2013 season, the Banks County Leopards Baseball team is hard at work for the summer season. The summer program started last week and the JV and Varsity teams will play numerous double headers this month in preparation for the spring season.
The Leopards have two teams involved in the summer program. The Junior Varsity team consists of players from ninth through eleventh grade and the Varsity is primarily older students.
The varsity team will finish the season with a double elimination tournament at the end of June and the league championship on June 26th.
The JV squad played Friday afternoon against Franklin County at home. The Leopards took the game in three innings 6-4 after a rainstorm caused a delay that eventually was ruled a called game.
The Leopards took an early 2-0 lead in the game. BCHS walks four batters to load the bases and the Lions unload one to the fence to take the lead 4-2. The inning is over with a pick at second base by Griffin Goodwin.
The Lions fall to the same fate loading the bases and the Leopards take advantage of the situation and score four runs before the rain can cause a delay and eventual end of the game. The second game was called by the heavy downpour.
