The American Veterans Memorial Park Aquatics Center will be open to the public on Monday, May 27 (Memorial Day), at 1 p.m.
During the first week of the season, it will operate for six days, through Saturday, June 1, from 1 to 5 p.m.. After the first week, the regular hours will be Wednesday through Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. The schedule will remain the same until it closes on August 2.
Daily admission is $1.50 for children ages 3-18 (high school) and $3 for adults. Season passes for individuals and families are available at the recreation office.
The pool is also available for private party rentals on Saturday evenings in June and July. Call the recreation office at 706-335-3236 for more information.
Activities at the aquatic center will include:
•Competitive Swimming: The Tiger Shark Swim Team will use the aquatic center to host home swim meets as well as practices. The first Tiger Shark practice will be held on Monday, May 27, the day the pool opens.
•Swimming Lessons: The CPRD will offer swim lessons for boys and girls ages 3-12.
Lessons for kids ages 3-4 are 45-minute sessions on July 17-21, at 9:45 a.m. Registration runs through June 14 and costs $50 for residents and $70 for non-residents.
Lessons for kids ages 5-12 are hour-long sessions on June 3-12 and June 24-July 3. Daily sessions begin at 9:45 a.m. Registration runs through June 21 and costs $50 for residents and $70 for non-residents.
•Water Aerobics: A water exercise class is offered for adult men and women. Experienced water aerobics instructor Kim Flint will lead the morning sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m. Evening sessions will be on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The class begins on Wednesday, May 29 and will be ongoing until early August. Cost is $3 per class at the gate. No advanced registration is required.
•Lap Swimming: The CPRD will hold lap swimming excersices from 12 to 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning on Wednesday, May 29. Cost is $3 per visit.
