Mariah Spry led the Jackson County Comprehensive High School girls’ team with her second-place finish in the 100-meter dash at the region 8-AAA championship Saturday at East Jackson Comprehensive High School.
Her finish advances her to the Class AAA sectional meet Saturday at Southeast Bulloch High School near Statesboro.
The Region 8-AAA results posted on ga.milesplit.com show Spry finished the 100 in 12.55 seconds, right behind Oconee County’s Aria Thiessen (12.54).
She was the only girl from JCCHS to advance to the sectional meet, one of two sectionals that will determine who competes in the GHSA state track and field finals at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, May 9-11.
Spry, who is a senior, consistently logged the best sprint times in Jackson County. She finished atop the field during the recent championship (13.0), becoming a three-time county champion in the event.
