The Jefferson High School boys’ tennis team handily advanced in the first round of the state tennis tournament on Tuesday, April 23.
Defeating Bowdon 5-0, the team was led by Jordan Tyler (6-1, 6-0), Jackson Howard (6-3, 6-3), Justin Harrison (6-1, 6-0) and doubles players Wil Roberts/Nathaniel Trawick (6-0, 6-0) and Kody McDonald/Ian Johnson (1-0, 1-0, forfeit).
The win followed JHS’ loss in the region 8-AA final to Riverside Military Academy, 3-0, last week. The Dragons, which hosted the region tournament, defeated Rabun County 3-0 with wins by Tyler (6-0, 6-4), Howard (6-0, 6-3) and the doubles team of Roberts/Trawick (6-3, 6-0) to advance to the final and win the no. 2 seed, at least.
Tyler, Howard and Trawick/Roberts were all selected to the all-region second team.
The Dragons will face the winner of the Calhoun/Greater Atlanta Christian playoff this week.
