The Mill Creek varsity girls placed tenth and the varsity boys finished fourteenth at last weekend’s Coach Wood Invitational in Gainesville.
The varsity girls were led by Brittany Westmoreland (19th, 19:43). Alicia Connolly (32nd, 20:16), Megan Steele (66th, 21:10), Megan Steinocher (81st, 21:26) and Heather Peterman (103rd, 21:54) also scored for the Lady Hawks. Mill Creek competed against 26 other teams and ended the day with a team average time of 20:54.
The junior varsity girls placed fifth in the tournament. The Lady Hawks were led by Amber Yi (14th, 22:00). Vivianna Perez (27th, 22:32), Austine Scales (33rd, 22:42), Lauren Scott (35th, 22:42) and Gabi Gebrauer (45th, 22:59) also scored.
The Mill Creek boys were led by Austin Boetje (45th, 17:10). Tim Heffner (58th, 17:21), Steven Zwick (88th, 17:41), Nick Bava (94th, 17:45), and Shane Huckeba (96th, 17:47) also scored for the team. The team average time was 17:33.
The boys’ junior varsity finished sixth. Scoring for the team were Thomas Varnson (35th, 18:42), Mitch Flammang (39th, 18:47), Ben Gaunt (50th, 18:58), Josh Bridgewater (52nd, 18:59) and Brian Benzinger (54th, 19:01).
The boys’ team next meet is the Last Chance Invitational in Carrollton next Saturday.
All of the Mill Creek cross country teams will compete in the 7-AAAAA regional championships in Duluth, GA. on Saturday, November 1.
