Madison County out-legged Cedar Shoals by a point Tuesday at home as the cross country season starts to wind down for the Raider runners.
Sparked by senior Jazmond Taylor’s first-place time of 18:27 Madison County was able to nip the visiting Jaguars, 27-28. Alexia Suparkorndej led the girls’ effort with a fifth-place time of 26:33, but the Madison County girls’ team didn’t have enough runners to qualify for a team score.
The Madison County cross country teams now have just one meet remaining — the Oct. 21 MainStreet Newspapers meet at East Jackson — before the region meet, Nov. 1.
In Thursday’s win, the Raiders received a sub-20 minute times from freshmen Mauro Ortiz (fourth, 19:47) and Corey Brakhage (sixth, 19:53) to complement Taylor’s sub 19-minute showing.
Rounding the scoring for Madison County were Jacob Collins (20:15, seventh) and Scott Barnes (20:49, ninth).
Also running for the boys’ team were Chris Dove (11th, 21:09), Dalton Owensby (12th, 21:14), Elisha Nichols (13th, 21:25), Marcus Bowen (14th, 21:48), Reid Painter (19th, 23:46), Brett Coggins (22nd, 24:05) and Drew Cofer (26th, 27:28).
Also competing for the girls were Tricia Ebalobo (seventh, 30:02) and Bonnie Walker (31:12).
