The Madison County Recreation Department will send teams to the Georgia Parks and Recreation Association’s Seventh District basketball tournaments soon.
The teams have been practicing for two weeks and will start their tournament play Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23.
Dawson County Recreation Department has recently moved up to the Class B division of youth sports and they will host the 10-and-under girls’ tournament. Madison County’s team will square off against Jackson County at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 23. Tim Culp is the head coach for this team and he is assisted by Lee Chancey and Allison Daniels. Players are Caroline Barrett, Maggie Blackmon, Ella Chancey, Brynne Culp, Hayley Daniels, Macy Mullis, Hallee Nash, Deasia Sewell, Destiny Sewell and Jyana Turner.
Habersham County will be hosting the 10-and-under boys’ and 12-and-under girls’ tournaments. The Madison County 10-and-under boys will begin tournament action at 6:15 p.m. against Habersham County at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center gym.
This team is coached by Daniel Hill and his assistant is J. Ben Bray. Making up the roster are I’Ketric Barnett, Ben Bray, TyQuaveon Chappell, Garrett Garner, Logan Griffeth, Nolan Hill, Brock McElroy, Ben Pethel, Devin Walton and Elijah Wessinger.
The 12-and-under girls’ team will begin play at 7:45 p.m. against Habersham County. Sydney Armstrong, Emily Austin, Tykeria Barnett, Carly Damron, Cloie Dickerson, Bethany Fortson, Lauren Griffeth and Kaleigh Nix make up the roster for Madison County. Dwayne Dickerson is the head coach for this team, and he is assisted by Keith Nix.
The seventh district 12-and-under boys’ tournament will be hosted by Barrow County. The 12-and-under boys will tip-off their tournament against Dawson County at 6:15 p.m. Friday night. B.J. Stone is the head coach for this team and his assistants are Tim Skelton and Chad Bridges. The roster is made up of the following players: Ford Bird, Chase Bridges, Patrick Heard, Adam Metts, Hayden Morris, Luke Perdue, Blake Taylor, Derrick Ware, Demyus Watts and Andres Witt.
