Daivon Ledford (170 lbs.) finished first and Lane Robertson (182-lbs) took second Saturday to lead the Jackson County Comprehensive High School wrestling team to a sixth-place finish at the East Metro Wrestling Classic at Alcovy High School.
“The East Metro is a tough tournament and we wrestled well,” Jason Powers said. “We are wrestling better and better everyday right now.”
Ledford’s performance was “dominating,” Powers said, with two technical falls, a pin and a major decision.
“The closest match he had was 11-0 in the semifinals,” he said. “He is really improving from every area and is looking great as we near the post season.”
Evan Breakspear also wrestled well, Powers said.
“Evan is really becoming a force to deal with as we get closer to the area tournament.”
The varsity team will compete at Bowdon this weekend.
Those wrestlers who placed were: first place, Daivon Ledford (170 lbs.); second, Lane Robertson (182 lbs.); fourth, JT Wood (120 lbs.) and Evan Breakspear (220 lbs.); sixth place, Conner Crump (106 lbs.) and Jorge Monzon (195 lbs.)
The junior varsity team competed at East Hall. Aaron Sosebee (126 lbs.) won first; Marshall Turner (132 lbs.) placed second and Antonio Messineo (152 lbs.) finished fourth.
