Knights benefit from balanced attack

While the Bethlehem Christian Academy boys basketball team had its winning streak snapped Saturday, coach Mark Barth said he still believes the team is on the right track as the postseason tournaments begin to come into view.

The Knights fell to Monsignor Donovan in non-region play Saturday 46-43, but the effort was still there, Barth said.

“We played with a lot of energy,” the BCA coach said. “That was good to see. We’ve had several players step up for us in recent games. You need a balanced attack to be successful.”

The Knights led Saturday with three minutes to go, but could not make the lead hold up.

“It was a tough physical game,” Barth said. “I was proud of our effort. It was a tough loss.”

Niko Mauilloux and Jacob Fincher both finished with 10 points. Kevin Green added nine points and Ben Morgan had 13 rebounds.

The previous night, BCA traveled to Nathanael Greene and recorded a 35-29 Region 1-A victory. Green led the team with 12 points while Chance Spratlin added eight. Morgan contributed seven points and six rebounds.

“It was a good win,” Barth said.

Earlier in the week, the Knights defeated John Hancock for another region win in double overtime. Mailloux led BCA with 17 points while Morgan had 17 boards. The win was key for the Knights, Barth said.
