Panthers travel to face Eastside Friday night

Loses Homecoming to Franklin Co., 14-0

On the heels of last week’s loss to the Franklin County Lions, the Panthers of Jackson County are getting ready to hit the road and looking for a little underdog luck this weekend as they travel to Covington to face the Eastside Eagles Friday night.

On paper, the advantage is clearly that of the Eagles. They are the top ranked team in the region with two wins and one loss, and are 5-1 overall. Meanwhile, the Panthers are continuing to search for their first region win of the year.

Eastside has scored 158 points this year, a 26.3 per game average, while Jackson County has scored a total of 48, averaging to eight points per game.

The Panthers have allowed opposing teams to score 127 points against them this year, a 21.2 per game average, while the Eagles have allowed 93 points, a 15.5 per game average.

Historically, Eastside has the edge as well. In their five previous meetings, the Eagles have been victorious three times. But Jackson County won the last two meetings between the teams, winning 21-14 in 2004, and 20-13 in 2005.

Eastside enters Friday night’s game off of a 24-7 loss to Hart County.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
