JHS players, coach top all-region team

Jefferson High School took most of the top honors in the All-Region 8-AA football lineup, which coaches released Tuesday.

Senior quarterback Bryant Shirreffs was named offensive player of the year.

Senior linebacker Wesley Simonton earned defensive player of the year.

Coach T. McFerrin was named coach of the year.

Kicker Chandler Schlutow and Rabun County kicker Carlos Diaz shared the honor of special teams player of the year.

Four other Jefferson players made the first-team list. They are: Collin Anthony and Jordan Tyler, offensive linemen; Kody McDonald, linebacker; and Tyler Bowen, defensive lineman.

Honorable mention picks from Jefferson are: Tristen Jackson, Sammy Williams, Donnie Hatfield, McKay Dickens, Eli Griffin, Micah Carpenter, Tradd Porter and Hanon Price.
